This question is raised by many who may be skeptical about recycling mobile phones using one of the many companies advertised online and on the TV.

First and foremost, the mobile recycling companies will no doubt be able to take advantage of the various tax benefits and concessions offered by the government as the government has realized that such companies offer a tremendous service and therefore they want to stimulate growth in this sector. From tax rebates, discounts on the amount of tax actually payable and concessions on associated expenses, there are a number of ways in which a canny mobile phone recycling business operator can make their fortune.

Mobile phone recycling companies will also usually supplement their income by selling on the phones they recover and recycle either for themselves, or onto a 3rd party for additional profits. Either the phones that the recycling company gains will be stripped down to the respective components with each of the parts then sold off individually, or the phone will be refurbished and cosmetic damage repaired. With this so achieved, the phone can then be legitimately sold to the consumer (albeit it with a reduction in the price).

There are some people who feel resentful towards the mobile phone recycling companies for making a profit as they see it as a perversion of what should be a charitable event . However, if we do not provide some form of financial incentive for businesses to provide such a worthwhile and meaningful service then what possible motivation could they have for giving us such a service? In short, good intentions may warm the soul, but they certainly do not feed us nor that tall white horse upon which we gallantly trot around upon. Once the companies realize how profitable it is to engage in such practices, then we will be able to make further improvements.
